Better Air Equals Better Productivity
Indoor air quality (IAQ) describes how the air inside a building affects a person’s health, comfort, and ability to work. Professional managers and top tier employers have long been focused on this because of its undeniable association with employee productivity and well-being. Covid-19 has brought the topic of HVAC systems and IAQ to the forefront in the context of reducing the spread of airborne viruses.
In Crown’s buildings, ensuring the best IAQ involves implementing strict cleaning measures and finding ways to disinfect not only the fresh air coming into buildings but also the recirculated air we breathe. It is important to note that any change to a building’s air ventilation systems or their operations can have significant consequences. There is no “one size fits all” solution when it comes to addressing indoor air quality. As a building occupant, you can ensure that the manager of your building is a professional one. They should, at a bare minimum, follow the standards recommended by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers or ASHRAE. Crown is an avid promoter of sustainability initiatives across its building operations. The on-going concerns associated with the health and wellness of all building occupants is our top priority.
To ensure the successful full-time return to the workplace, Crown has implemented and continues to investigate a number of measures that are centred around health and wellness, including the following:
- Rigorous cleaning and sanitization protocols focusing on building occupancy and high touch points.
- Testing the application of technologies, including sensors that provide real-time occupancy analytics.
- Reviewing all recommendations related to specialized equipment and procedures to improve indoor air quality.
- Incorporating touch-free technologies and automatic sensors throughout common areas.
- Reinforcing good hygiene practices with bold signage and regular tenant communications.
- Pursuing health and well-being building certifications such as Fitwel.
- Reinventing Crown’s model suites program as “Safe + Suites”a model suite that offers prospective tenants an immediate solution for a healthier workplace.

Safe + Suites by Crown
Looking forward, while many businesses continue to operate with a work from home component, there are a number of businesses that are now re-entering the workplace. Leasing transactions continue to take place. Virtual touring is active and Crown is focused on ensuring all building protocols are up to date.
Crown, through its model suites program, has always made it easier for businesses of varying sizes to move to our buildings. Last week, Crown introduced Safe+Suites, a post-Covid update to our model suites program that prioritizes workplace health and safety. The designs incorporate social distancing and reduce surface contact. The concept shows how the office can maintain its necessary role as a strategic hub for growing businesses. Returning to the Workplace
Over the coming weeks and months, as the stay-at-home guidelines are gradually lifted, we expect more traffic to come into our buildings. Crown is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of building occupants, employees, service providers and visitors as the return to the workplace progresses.
Crown tenants have received a Return to the Workplace information package (also available here) to assist with their planning. The Crown team will continue to work behind the scenes to ensure that best practices are implemented so the businesses within our buildings can focus on their own teams and clients.

Supporting Our Local Communities

Thank You to all First Responders, Front Line and Health Care Workers!
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Crown is humbled by the efforts and commitment of all front line workers. As a small token of our appreciation, together with our partner, Crestpoint, are happy to help in our own small way by offering front line workers free parking at the Dundas Edward Centre.
The Dundas Edward Centre is located at 180 Dundas Street West, just east of University Avenue and is in the heart of the Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children Community.
